3 REASONS WHY YOU ARE UNEMPLOYED!

Wondering why you are unemployed?

Our research with a sample of more than 500 recent graduates and jobseekers revealed the following MAIN reasons:

Poor Opportunity Mapping

  • What jobs are you targeting?
  • How many times have you applied for a job that needs 6 years of work experience when you only have 6 months?
  • Where do you source your job vacancies from?
  • What type of jobs (remote or fulltime) are you looking for?
  • How many jobs do you apply for per week?

Opportunity mapping is having the ability to apply for the right jobs i.e. know which jobs, from where, under what categories (industry, position title) and how many jobs you are supposed to apply for in order to increase your chances of landing a job.

A jobseeker can source for full-time and remote jobs from LinkedIn, emploi.co, jobweb, upwork(mostly remote work), hallmark recruitment amongst others.

From this platforms, it is also important that you look for jobs that fit your skill-set and years of experience. To increase your chances of landing a job, it is also important that you apply for at least 3 job vacancies a week.

Your Curriculum Vitae

A CV/ Resume will form the first impression that your employer has of you. It is therefore paramount that that impression is solid.

In 3 pages or less, your main responsibility is to demonstrate your competence by clearly but concisely outlining your roles and responsibilities in your previous role/s (irrespective of whether it was a job, internship, industrial attachment or voluntary opportunity).

Your CV also has to be tailored to the job description, this will help to demonstrate that you have the right skillset.

Further to this, it is important that you site some few achievements from your previous role/s. This will help you to stand out as a high achiever.

Performance in Interviews

A lot of people assume an interview is the most important determinant of whether you land that job or not. They are right.

BUT, you cannot get that interview if you didn’t apply for the right job (opportunity mapping) or demonstrate your skillset in your CV.

In an interview, interviewers will check your presentation, dresscode and body language, attitude and relevant soft skills and suitability for the job.

It is important that you use the interview as a platform to further market yourself.

A tip: Let your personality shine because the employers are also gauging if you are the type of person they’d want to work with. Sometimes, your likability will make the difference between you and the next candidate. Take a personality test to know your personality type.
